Light-gauge steel stud (a.k.a. light-gauge steel framing) is a metal skeleton made from hot-dip-galvanized steel strip by cold-roll forming. It is widely used in architectural finishing work because of its low weight, high strength, water resistance and seismic resistance.

Main application areas

1. Suspended-ceiling systems

As the primary member of plasterboard ceilings, the studs are hung from the slab with threaded rods and combined with gypsum boards to create shaped ceilings in shopping malls, offices, railway stations and other public buildings.

2. Wall finishing

Used for interior/exterior wall frames and batten ceilings, providing sound insulation and dust protection; typical in malls, factories and renovation of existing buildings.

3. Load-bearing structures

Certain sections (e.g. heavy-duty U-shaped studs) can carry concentrated loads and are therefore used for access walkways and similar applications.

Classifications

  • By use: main ceiling stud, secondary stud and accessories

  • By load capacity: light series (UC38), medium series (UC50), heavy series (UC60)

  • By cross-section: commonly U-shaped and C-shaped
